About us
Swiss Vascular is an ETH Zurich spin-off developing silicone anatomy modules, pumps, simulator systems and custom technologies for people who train clinicians, develop medical devices and conduct research. Our company grew out of ANGIE, a European research project developing magnetic microrobots for targeted drug delivery. The simulation tools we built for that work became our first products. Today, we serve customers internationally while preparing to take the research that brought our founding team together into its next stage.
We built our first vascular modules for our own research. When surgeons tried them, we realised we weren’t the only ones who needed them.
A Challenge in the Lab
At ETH Zurich’s Multi-Scale Robotics Lab, our team needed to test magnetic microrobots in small, complex vessels under physiological conditions. The available phantoms did not meet our requirements for anatomical detail, surface interaction and flow.
We Built What Was Missing
We developed our own vascular modules and circulation setups, then invited surgeons to assess their realism. Their response revealed something we had not initially set out to build: simulation tools that others wanted for their own work.
Swiss Vascular Took Shape
Those conversations sparked the idea for Swiss Vascular in autumn 2023. Growing demand turned our research tools into a commercial portfolio. Today, our simulation business is self-sustaining, with dedicated staff and customers across Europe and North America.
Developed Together
Research is part of Swiss Vascular’s identity. Our roots at ETH Zurich keep us connected to the people and technical questions that shaped our beginnings. We continue working with clinicians, researchers and engineers to understand where existing tools fall short, and what would make a meaningful difference in their daily work.
Collaboration is central to how Swiss Vascular works. We develop our technologies together with clinicians, universities, hospitals and research groups across Europe and beyond. These partnerships bring real clinical feedback into product development, training and research, helping us understand what is actually needed and continuously improve our solutions.
Advancing ANGIE
ANGIE is developing magnetically guided, dissolvable microcapsules for targeted drug delivery. It brings together capsule engineering, magnetic navigation and medical imaging, with the aim of delivering medicines to specific locations inside the body. The research that created the need for our first simulation tools remains an active part of our work.
Swiss Vascular’s founders lead ANGIE’s development, from capsule delivery and navigation hardware to imaging and software. Alongside the continuing research at ETH Zurich, we are now preparing the technology’s transition beyond the academic setting. Our experience in turning research tools into products provides a foundation for this next step, while our dedicated simulation team continues developing the products our customers use today.
